Software Overview

What is Tree Plotter
Tree Plotter is a map in a web-browser application designed for tree inventory and data management that replaces traditional GPS-based inventory software programs. Tree Plotter allows users to add tree points and edit their attributes, querying/filtering trees, drawing graphics, summarizing/exporting data with charts, printing reports, exporting data (shapefile or CSV) and map printing
Can we use an existing Inventory in tree Plotter?
Yes, send us a shapefile, geodatabase, Access database, or an Excel Workbook (with X/Y coordinates and known coordinate system) and we will prepare it for Tree Plotter. We use a “Crosswalk” tool that allows us to map existing data structure into Tree Plotter’s default fields.
Do we have to install Tree Plotter?
Tree Plotter is browser-based, which requires no installation, and can be accessed on any internet capable device (PC, Tablet, Smartphone) on Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.
Who can use the application?
People from many different professions use our app - arborists, foresters, ecologists, city planners, tree maintenance crews, and more. Anyone may access the application as a guest, which allows them to explore basic tree information while not being able to add, edit, or move tree data. All users can login to the application by clicking the “Login” button on the upper right hand corner to edit tree data.
What else can Tree Plotter be used for?
Tree Plotter can be used on its own as tree inventory and data management software, or can be paired with other Plan-It Geo software applications and add-on modules. Available additional softwares include: Canopy Planner: software to manage the canopy levels and possible planting areas of urban forests, allowing users to view, plan, and grow their canopy. Parks Plotter: software to inventory and manage street and park assets, including street signs, playgrounds, park tables and benches, hydrologist plotting stream measurements, forest stands, and public facilties. Tree Plotter can also be used to design planting plans and create charts for presentations.

Technology Overview

Can we use Tree Plotter on mobile devices?
Yes, Tree Plotter is currently designed for desktop browsers, tablet devices, and larger cell phones.
Can we add the webmap to our own website?
Yes. This can be done in a few different ways depending on how your website handles embedded links (iFrame, HTML embed).
Is there a data limit wiithin Tree Plotter?
No, there is no data limit, however, tree data is included in our subscription level pricing. Additional tree data can be purchased, in increments of 10,000, for $250 each, annually. Tree Data Included in Subscription Base: 4,000 trees Complete 1 yr: 40,000 trees Complete 3 yr: 40,000 trees Treemium: Unlimited
Is GPS on a mobile device used to map features?
The recommended method for mapping features in Tree Plotter does not use the GPS of your mobile device. Locations are placed (drawn) directly onto the map; they are as accurate as the underlying streets or imagery base map. Not using location services means that Tree Plotter won’t drain your battery either! Adding a point to the map auto-populates an x/y coordinate to each tree based on the imagery, not the location of your device (map based). If you prefer to use your mobile device's GPS to map features, a new function has been added to Tree Plotter that allows you to do so.
What security options are provided?
Users have the ability to specify what fields can be viewed or edited on a per-user level basis. You may also select the fields that public users/guests (users that are not logged in) can view in the tree popup. This is especially useful in cases where cities or businesses might not want to display certain sensitive information to the public (condition, risk, maintenance needs, etc.).
Is there a recommended tablet or browser to use for Tree Plotter?
Tree Plotter will function on any major tablet or browser with an internet connection. The most stable and thoroughly tested platform (used daily by our staff) is Google Chrome and either an iPad or Samsung Galaxy tablet.

Data Management

Can existing data be integrated into Tree Plotter?
Yes. Shapefiles or CSV files with x/y coordinate data and a known coordinate system are required for a viable upload. If you only have the address of trees, there will be limitations, but you can use the ‘move tree’ tool to move the trees to the true x y location.
What fields may be changed?
Field changes can be made to Tree Plotter software, but are at the discretion of our software development team and additional fees may apply. We recommend that you choose from our large list of default fields when starting a new inventory. We are able to keep all or most of your existing data types. Certain customized fields will cost an additional one-time fee (see pricing page).
What imagery is available within Tree Plotter's basemap?
Several imagery providers are present within Tree Plotter such as: Bing, Google, ESRI, Open Street Map, and Mapquest. These sources can be changed from satellite imagery to roads or elevational maps if needed. If you have your own imagery, we can host it on our server and display it in your Tree Plotter app. Tree Plotter can also display imagery and other layers stored as REST endpoints or other web services. (See pricing or call for a quote).
WIll I be able to get a copy of my data to bring into desktop software?
Yes, at any time you can use the “My Data” tab to export a copy of your data in shapefile or comma separated (.csv) format. When a subscription ends, we will send your data to you and deactivate your Tree Plotter application.
How do I prepare my data for using the Uploader Tool?
You can upload existing data as either a shapefile or CSV file. A shapfile is comprised of a number of different component files, all of which must be compressed into a .zip file prior to upload. A CSV with x/y data and a known coordinate system can also be uploaded.

What editing functionality do I have with Tree Plotter?
You can edit any tree point at any time by clicking on it (while logged in), clicking Details, and changing the tree or site properties. You can also use the Move tool to move any points that may have been placed on the wrong tree or location. A tool called Mass Update is also available to admin level users. This tool can change the features of multiple tree points at once.
What does the "Load Last" button do?
When the form pops up on a new tree point, tap the Load Last button and it will populate most data fields with the information from the previous tree that was opened. This feature is ideal for quick collection of similar trees.
Can you view data on multiple trees at once?
Yes, you can view and edit more than one Tree Details form. We recommend using the Data Table as a more effective way to view multiple trees' data.
How do I move a tree?
Desktop: When moving trees on the desktop, simply toggle the move button in the upper right corner and click and drag the point to its new location. Mobile: When moving trees on a mobile device, toggle the move button in the upper right corner, select the point you wish to move, and tap the map with your finger or stylus in the new location you would like to move it to.
What are the chart and report functionalities of Tree Plotter?
After clicking the “Stats” button in the upper-left, you will find the By The Numbers section as well as many different charts and graphs broken up into sections. These charts can be viewed as pie charts, bar charts, or tabular data and can be exported as a PNG file by clicking the wrench button in the bottom corner of the chart. You can also export a formatted report with your choice of charts/graphs in the "Print Report" tab.
Will more functionalities become available in the future?
Yes, new functionality is being developed on a daily basis. Each new application will be posted with the newest code base at the time. If a 3-year subscription is purchased, a client will have the choice to purchase the newest version updates for $1,250 per year.
Do you offer custom website or web mapping beyond what is included in Tree Plotter
