Aguilar Plant Care and TreePlotter: From Paper Maps to a Trusted Digital Operation
From error-prone paper maps to a trusted, client-facing digital operation.Aguilar Plant Care and TreePlotter: How Digital Mapping Built Client Trust
Aguilar Plant Care runs a high-risk tree health business across Southern California, treating corporate campuses and large commercial sites where a single mistake can cost a client trust. Since 2017, the company has relied on TreePlotter INVENTORY to turn that risk into a repeatable, error-resistant operation. What began as a basic mapping tool now manages field risk, keeps crews aligned, and proves the company’s value to clients.
From Paper Maps to a Digital Workflow
Aguilar Plant Care’s crews used to rely on hand-drawn maps and verbal briefings to manage trees on large, complex properties. Producing custom plans took time, and no one could standardize the process. When multiple crews worked the same site, or months passed between visits, the data grew confusing and led to costly errors. Nobody could easily confirm what had already been inspected or treated.
TreePlotter changed that. The platform gives crews clear, filterable digital maps on their phones and tablets, so they always know which trees to treat. New hires learn the system on day one as part of onboarding, and every technician can pull up the full work history and condition notes for any tree, on any visit.
Ricardo Aguilar, President and CEO of Aguilar Plant Care, sums up the shift plainly: moving from paper to digital maps gave his whole team confidence they’re working on the right trees, every time. “Before TreePlotter, we were literally drawing maps on paper for our crews, and there was always a chance someone treated the wrong tree,” he says. “Moving to digital maps on tablets changed that.”
A Tool That Scales Without the Clutter
Aguilar Plant Care’s client list has grown to include big names like Legoland and the Irvine Company, and the team needed a tool that could scale with that growth without adding complexity. TreePlotter now serves as the company’s dedicated hub for tree and site information, giving clients and crews a shared view of every property and what it needs next.
Ricardo chose TreePlotter INVENTORY over more complex, report-heavy alternatives for exactly that reason: it gives his team and clients what they need, minus the clutter. Estimators capture the right level of detail quickly, which frees them up to advise clients instead of wrestling with software.
Turning Maps Into a Client-Facing Advantage
TreePlotter started as an internal tool, but it has become one of Aguilar’s biggest advantages with clients. An accurate, up-to-date map lets the team show exactly which trees they inspected, treated, or monitored, and precisely when they did it.
“TreePlotter started as an internal tool to help us run jobs more smoothly, but it’s become one of our biggest advantages with clients,” Ricardo explains. “When they can see exactly which trees we’re treating and why, it builds trust and makes our proposals stand out.”
That visual clarity now shapes competitive bids, too. Aguilar’s clean, site-specific maps feel appropriately scaled next to the dense, overwhelming reports many competitors produce. Because the maps ground every proposal in accurate data, clients can grasp scope and value at a glance. Because recommended treatments tie directly to specific trees and zones, clients can approve work with real confidence. And because crews can always show what they did on a previous visit, follow-up work stays consistent and long-term site care starts to feel intentional rather than reactive.
Tracking a Fast-Moving Threat
That approach matters most when the stakes are highest. Since 2017, Aguilar Plant Care has used TreePlotter to track the South American Palm Weevil’s march through Southern California, turning scattered field observations into a clear visual story of spread and risk for clients like the Irvine Company.
The numbers tell that story on their own. By 2019, the pest had reached Mission Valley, affecting 191 palms of a single host species, the Canary Island date palm — a 19-mile advance from the U.S. border at roughly two and a half miles a year. It jumped another 17.5 miles to Pala by 2022, reaching 706 palms across six host species. Two years later, it had pushed 11.5 miles past Highway 76, striking 1,067 palms and 12 host species. By February 2026, the front had moved 50 miles beyond its original path to San Onofre, advancing at closer to ten miles a year and now attacking 14 different palm species. Traps have caught the pest as far north as Irvine and Lake Forest in Orange County, and confirmed palm deaths at San Onofre State Park and the Trestles Wetland Preserve sit just a mile from San Clemente.
“When we map the SAPW for clients, TreePlotter lets us show the spread visually,” Ricardo says. “That’s what created urgency and helped them understand why we were recommending certain treatments.” Rather than lean on lengthy explanations or static spreadsheets, Aguilar Plant Care hands clients a spatially accurate map that makes it easier to prioritize budgets, plan treatments, and prepare for the next wave. Over time, that same map builds a treatment and condition history that supports long-term pest management and accountability.
Trust, Efficiency, and Growth
TreePlotter INVENTORY now runs quietly behind the scenes of Aguilar Plant Care’s entire operation. It cuts avoidable field errors, speeds up crews, and gives leadership real confidence in what’s happening on every site. Technicians spend less time deciphering paper maps and more time doing the right work in the right place.
On the business side, TreePlotter helps Aguilar Plant Care project a level of professionalism that matches its blue-chip client list. Visual inventories and treatment histories have become a built-in value-add in every proposal and progress meeting, and they help the company win new contracts and deepen existing relationships.
Ricardo still points to one outcome above all: trust. His team trusts that they’re doing the right work, and clients trust what they can see for themselves in every map. For other tree and plant health care firms, Aguilar’s experience sends a clear signal — moving beyond paper maps and fragmented tools isn’t just a technology upgrade. It’s a competitive advantage.
