Community Forest Management Plan

Castleton-on-Hudson, NY

Realizing the community forest is a valued asset, Castleton-on-Hudson, herein referred to as “the Village”, invested in a collaborative planning process with support from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The Village completed this Community Forest Management Plan with the community and urban foresters consultants at PlanIT Geo to maintain, protect, and enhance the Village’s tree canopy and the many benefits it provides to the community. This Community Forest Management Plan is based on 2021 inventory data and creates a 7-year roadmap that addresses the questions of:

  • Why does Castleton-on-Hudson need a CFMP?
  • What do we have?
  • What do we want?
  • How do we get what we want?

The nearly 500 street and park trees throughout Castleton-on-Hudson are an asset that bring value and benefits to the community. Furthermore, trees on private property provide added benefits. The goals set forth in the Plan require a shared commitment and partnership between the Village and its residents to sustain a thriving community forest.
